If you have concerns about a child’s development, initiating a conversation with a professional who is familiar with the child is a prudent first step. This could be the child’s doctor, early childhood educator, or child health nurse. Following this initial discussion, our early childhood partners can assist in connecting you to appropriate support services.

For children under 6 years old, a formal diagnosis from a doctor is not required to access support through our early childhood approach. More information on obtaining help for children is available.

Our early childhood partners are experienced professionals specializing in working with children under 6 with developmental delays and children under 9 with disabilities, along with their families. They emphasize delivering family-centered support using a best practice model. These partners will collaborate with you to understand the child’s needs and link you to the most suitable supports and services.

For further details on how children can receive assistance through the early childhood approach, please refer to our resources available in accessible formats on the booklets and factsheets page.
